Can I Share Your Breath?
“Can I Share Your Breath?” is a collaborative sculpture by LOW Lucas O. Woelk and Gage Ramos. It tackles subjects of identity, intimacy, and connection. This work was created through body casting with plaster dipped muslin and coiling using repurposed yarn and fabric. The cast shows the artists embracing, holding tightly onto the fabric that covers them.
“Can I Share Your Breath?” is inspired by the dynamic of two individuals being so closely linked that their identities begin to merge. In this sculpture we explore the view from the outside vs the inside of a relationship. From the first viewpoint the form appears uniform or solid all the way through, but there is a peak of something different around the corner. The small amount of blunt black coiling against stark white plaster encourages the viewer to investigate the form further. Other angles of the sculpture reveal a complexly intertwined network inside the cast, which reflects the intricate ways in which identities are connected or differentiated in a close relationship.
