Rhind, flesh, seed– ancient and delicious
The fruit is skin and meat
I see myself in it, vulnerable, tender
Awaiting hungry creatures

To sink the nail of a thumb
Into the peel of an orange
And tear it from itself
To reveal the sweet muscle

To pull the ligaments from the edges
Of each section in a clementine
So that the thin tendons
Don’t get stuck between teeth

To juice a lime with both hands
Practically shaking from squeezing so hard
Pulp and seed become collateral damage
To the pursuit of it’s sapid marrow

Pleasure and destruction,
Two sides of the same coin.
