2023, Inspired by Derrek Jarman's 1993 film "Blue"


If my vision shrinks
Periphery first
Closes in on me
Till there's nothing left,
Will I disappear with it?

What proof will I have
To assure me that
I am not simply dreaming,
Or forgetting to open
My sleep crusted lids?

Will my eyes just roll out of my head
Pop right out onto the floor,
And will they take with them
The memory of everything
That they had seen before?

If my skin turns blue
My eyes turn grey
And my hair turns white,
Will anyone tell me
If I can't see it myself?

Will the doctor visits
And numberless exams
All be worth it,
Or will I just be wasting
What vision I have left
On brown-carpeted and white-walled waiting rooms?
